Searching for a warehouse management system can be a daunting task, partly because it’s difficult to find accurate (unbiased) information and partly because of the sheer quantity of options available.
A google search of “Best Warehouse Management System,” for example, returns a seemingly endless supply of reviews and “top choices.” To help cut through the fluff, we’ve compiled this meta-analysis—a review of the reviews—to see if there are any patterns or standout options that can make your buying decision a little bit easier.
Our analysis looked at 14 WMS rankings published within the last 12 months. But before we get deeper into our methodology, let’s start with why you’re here—the results:

Methodology:
We began how most people looking for a review would, by typing “best warehouse management systems,” into google. From there we limited ourselves to looking only at recently published pages (within the last 12 months), which presented their reviews as ranked lists of at least 10 options.
Within the first 5 pages of googles search results we managed to find 14 websites that had compiled these review lists. Just to give you an idea of how many options there are to choose from, and the lack of consensus around the topic, out of those 14 reviews we found a whopping 68 recommended systems.
However, once the data was compiled and analyzed there were a few top contenders.
There were two metrics we were able to pull from our analysis. The first, and most obvious, is frequency of mentions—the number of times a particular WMS made the top 10 list across our 14 reviews.
But we wanted to derive a score that went a little bit deeper than that, one that was able to take into account the actual position each WMS was ranked on each of the lists. To do this, we assigned each WMS a score of 1-10 based on it’s placing in the rank (i.e. a number one position in the ranking earned a score of 10, number two ranking earned a score of 9. etc.) Next, we tallied these scores up and divided them by the frequency of mentions to arrive at an average score across reviews.
Of course, this doesn’t give us an apples-to-apples comparison, as no two reviews looked at exactly the same set of WMSs, but it does provide a general impression of the software’s efficacy across the web.
With that in mind, our top contender definitely puts up some impressive stats. Oracle NetSuite was not only mentioned the most across the 14 reviews, but was also consistently ranked highly across them.
However, (and if you’ll excuse the cliché) one size does not fit all, and warehouse management systems are no exception. Ultimately, what will serve you best will depend on your organization’s unique needs.
